I am a pack rat and storage is what I need. I know it sounds weird but its true. And my mom is a pack rat too! What I like to collect is tools, books and clothes. Whenever I need to fix something around the house I go and buy all the tools and supplies needed, read up on how to fix whatever, do the job and then store away the tools and supplies left over. I usually have one or two jobs to do around the house every month so you can imagine that after 15 years in the same house that I would have collected quite a lot of tools and supplies. And you would be right!
Pack rat collects books
For some strange reason I love books. If I sit in a room full of books I am at peace. Take out the books and I am unhappy. I do not even need to read the books, but having them near is enough to keep me happy. I do read most all the books I buy, but occasionally I will get interested in a subject, run to the book store and pick out a dozen titles, run home and start reading only to discover after a book or two that the subject no longer interests me. In that case i have a load of books I’ll never read, no one will buy used, and I will not give away.
Do these actions make me a certified Pack Rat? You bet.
Now storage needs of a pack rat can be solved two ways. The easiest and cheapest is to have a yard sale then throw out what does not sell. The second method is to rent a storage container for your Pack Rat, fill it with all the extra stuff you own, and ship it off to the storage facility for safe keeping. Eventually when you die, your kids can sell off and give away all that stuff you stored, you old Pack Rat !
